Styrofoam. What do you think?

As you’ve likely noticed, the Shelburne Supermarket has been becoming more and more green lately. We are trying our best to consider our impact on the natural environment in all of the decisions we make. Now, another issue has come up, one we’d like your opinion on.

For years, we’ve offered Styrofoam coolers during the summer. They are effective at keeping your drinks cool, however they aren’t as effective when it comes to biodegrading. In fact, it takes a very long time. In order to have a piece of Styrofoam biodegrade, you have to wait at least one million years.

All of this is making us rather inclined to discontinue offering this product. We would, however, like the opinion of our customers, as you are most important to us. What do you think of this issue? Are there other products you feel we should discontinue due to their negative environmental impact?

You can post responses on this blog or feel free to send an email to ssmkt@myfairpoint.net.

We hope to hear from you,
Kyle
