You may have noticed a somewhat peculiar individual lurking around the front end of our store today. You’re right, it’s Marc. But it isn’t because of his normal wearing-shorts-in-winter manner. Marc has spent the day wearing an outfit made out of 500 plastic shopping bags. Why 500? That is the number of bags that the average individual consumes during a single year. That’s right, 500. Multiply that with, let’s say, the United States population, and you get…well, you get a lot. About 500 times 300 million worth. 

The Bag Monster suit is on loan to us from the ChicoBag company. You may recognize that name as the same as the reusable shopping bags we have been giving away at our registers. If you haven’t received one yet, all it takes is a purchase of $50 or more, and the bag is yours. There are two sizes and four colors to choose from.

The elimination of plastic shopping bags is only the most recent step in our collective effort to be more green and environmentally friendly. We have been extremely pleased with our customers’ warm reception of our recent change and we hope that everyone understands our motives and is happy to take part in our progress. It’s not just the plastic shopping bags that we have done away with. We have also eliminated a great deal of plastic waste from our back room operations. Little by little, we are striving to decrease our business’s negative impact on our natural world.
