Vermont Sales Tax-Free Holiday

Filed under: General News — Kyle at 9:56 am on Wednesday, February 24, 2010

Did you know that Saturday, March 6th is going to be a sales tax-free holiday in Vermont? Well, it is! That makes it a great day to save a few extra dollars on a case of wine. The Shelburne Supermarket already offers great deals when you buy wine by the case, but now it will be even cheaper. Did you dwindle the supply in your wine cellar over the holidays? If so, there won’t be a better time to restock. Along with our case discounts and the tax holiday, many wine prices are at lower prices that have been seen in years. You can’t pick a better time to pick some up!

Retro video

If you have a few free minutes, watch the video we just uploaded to our site. It’s a fun little video made by George Kokinis from Green Mountain Coffee Roasters. He had come to visit our store to make a video illustrating the relationship between our two businesses. It’s pretty entertaining and also does a good job showing how our two companies interact and help each other.

It is, however, a bit dated. Having been shot at least four years ago, there are clearly some discrepancies form reality, such as our office still being on the other side of the store. Watch it and see if you can spot all the differences. Did you notice that Steve’s hair is a lot darker, Marc’s is a lot longer, and Paul… well, Paul seems curiously exactly the same?

Watch the video.

Enjoy,
Kyle

Plastic bag update

Filed under: General News — Kyle at 10:45 am on Tuesday, February 16, 2010

We’d like to extend a very grateful thank you to all of our customers. You all have been incredibly supportive of our decision to discontinue the use of plastic shopping bags. Every time we look at the tallies, things are looking better and better.

From January 1 to February 14, when compared to the same time in 2009, we have seen 5,157 more reusable grocery bags used at our registers. This is an increase of 75%! That’s five thousand less pieces of trash. We are very pleased with this number and even more pleased to see that, so far, it’s going nowhere but up.

We’ve said it before, but it bears repeating, that we couldn’t have had this success without the support of our customers. This is just one step on the ladder toward being more environmentally conscious, but it was a significant one. Thanks again to everyone.

Yaba Daba Do,
Kyle

Drink wine, support the community.

Shelburne Supermarket would lik to acknowledge W.J. Deutsch and G. Housen for teaming up with us to give back to the community.  For all sales made between now and March 31st of the following 750ml bottles of Esser, Patch Block, Columbia Winery, Yellow Tail and Gary Farrell wines, W.J. Deutsch will donate $1 to Shelburne/Charlotte Food shelves.

W.J. Deutsch is a wine distributor that brings the U.S.market such household brands as Yellow Tail and Georges DuBoeuf.  G. Housen is the statewide distributor that delivers premium beverages: Nantucket Nectars, Sierra Nevadaand Izze.  G. Housen’s wine portfolio is second to none in the state.  In fact, all wines included in this project are currently distributed by G.Housen.

We encourage this project as we push for a sense of hometown pride and neighbors helping neighbors.  During such economic times, it’s great to work together in a forum such as this one.  In appreciation to our customers, Shelburne Supermarket has brought the prices down so to take advantage of this pilot program in the state of Vermont.  Please enjoy a bottle of wine tonight and improve your community all in one pop of the cork.  We appreciate your continuing support in our efforts to strengthen our community roots.
