Soup’s On

Filed under: General News — Kyle at 9:02 am on Wednesday, September 30, 2009

Hey all,

I had mentioned this in a previous post, but I wanted to remind everyone that we are now making fresh soups in our deli, 5 days a week, with the occasional Saturday thrown in. All of your favorite soups are now back and available daily, which means that I will again start my daily badgering of our chefs to make French Onion. Mmm, fantastic.

Corn today, gone tomorrow

Filed under: General News — Kyle at 10:40 am on Monday, September 28, 2009

I just wanted to make everyone aware that Wednesday is most likely going to be the final day to purchase local corn. The local supply is just about to disappear, so you should really have some corn before it’s gone. I know I am going to. In fact, I just might take it as a personal insult if you don’t get some. And you don’t want me to be sad, do you? I thought not.

Tschau,
Kyle

Vermont Coffee Company Bulk

Filed under: New Products — Kyle at 1:03 pm on Thursday, September 17, 2009

Vermont Coffee CompanyHey Everyone,
I am excited to announce that we now offer Vermont Coffee Company in bulk! We just set up a beautiful new bulk display in our coffee section. It allows you, the customer, not only the ability to portion out just the right amount of coffee, but also offers new, exciting flavors for you to try. The new flavors are as follows:

French Country Roast - A traditional continental dark roast with a clean, crisp taste.
Downtown Blend - A high-mountain blend roasted medium dark with a balanced, pleasant taste.
Full City Roast - A smooth, mellow, full-bodied coffee. Also makes a great espresso.
Italian Rustica - An old world peasant style with a rusty, smokey flavor. Their darkest roast.

I’ve personally tried two of their new flavors already and they are fantastic. If you are a fan of dark coffees, you would be doing yourself a serious disservice not to try the Italian Rustica. It is great. I also tried the Downtown Blend, which was also delicious, especially if you are more inclined toward a somewhat lighter coffee.

You can find the new display in our coffee section. The bulk Vermont Coffee Copmany coffee is offered at a very competitive price of $9.29 /lb, but can be purchased at this time at the special introductory price of $8.99 /lb.

Cheers,
Kyle

Cider Donuts!

Filed under: General News — Kyle at 8:37 am on Thursday, September 17, 2009

What lazy person came up with the spelling of ‘donuts,’ anyway? They’re doughnuts! And why haven’t they invited doughbolts and doughwashers yet?

OK, none of that was important. What is important is that the cider doughnuts are here! We get them hot and fresh each morning from our good friends over at Shelburne Orchards. Don’t miss out on them, or you are likely to be depressed for a whole year until they return.

You can find them right as you enter our store. Word to the wise, however - come early, as they tend to go quick. Word to the wiser - grab a cup of coffee, because when these doughnuts are dipped in coffee they are magically transformed from delicious to absolutely delectable. Eat up!

Hippo Saks!

Filed under: General News — Kyle at 1:40 pm on Sunday, September 6, 2009

The Shelburne Supermarket is proud to announce that we have switched from using traditional plastic shopping bags to using the new Hippo Sak.

This plastic bag alternative has a much reduced effect on the environment. They are produced using a natural gas process instead of the normal petroleum product method. They are highly recyclable as well as convenient for home re-use. It has been shown that the use of Hippo Saks reduces plastic bag usage by 35%.

Furthermore, you don’t have to sacrifice anything in terms of strength when switching to the Hippo Sak. They are made with a specialized 54 Micron strip that makes their bottom seal 500 times stronger than regular seals.

We hope that you enjoy the change we have made. It is just another step in a continuing effort to be more green and lessen our carbon footprint and impact on the environment.

You can read more about the Hippo Sak at their official website.

Soooooooup!

Greta writes:

“As a non-coffee drinker, I am looking forward to fall soups more than new seasonal coffee flavors. I hear that Chefs Bob and Matt make some pretty awesome soups. Do you have some idea of what we can expect now that fall is basically here?”
——

Well, Greta, you are completely correct. Our Chefs do make some excellent soups. In fact you can already find a couple of them in our Grab-&-Go case. After this coming Labor Day weekend, you will start to see more soups being offered more frequently in the case. When October rolls around (regrettably soon), soup season will really being to kick into gear. Soups will be made and served hot daily, as well as be offered cold in our Grab-&-Go case.

You will be seeing all of your (or maybe just our) favorite soups. From Clam Chowder, Chicken Noodle, and Minestrone, to Portabella Bisque, Cheddar Ale and Cheeseburger Soup. Oh, and let’s not forget the soup that makes it all worth it - the mighty French Onion Soup.

So, the soup is beginning to flow, and soon we will be delightfully drowning in it.

New Seasonal Coffees

Filed under: General News — Kyle at 8:20 am on Wednesday, September 2, 2009

Now that the Summer is drawing to a close and we are heading toward the Fall, it’s time to start enjoying the new seasonal coffees offered from our friends over at Green Mountain Coffee Roasters.

Now, if you are that one person who actually drank the “Perfect Peach” coffee this summer, you might be upset. But our statistics show that you might not even exist. That stuff sold about as well as ice water to Eskimos. But I digress. The new coffees are here. Start your morning off with a delicious cup of the Autumn Harvest Blend or the ever-popular, longley-awaited Pumpkin Spice.

Anything to get that peach taste out of your mouth, right?

Tionana,
Kyle
