Recipes and Free Samples

Filed under: General News — Kyle at 11:08 am on Thursday, May 28, 2009

FrankI just updated our Recipes page with Frank’s Bacon-Wrapped Stuffed Dates recipe from last week’s sampling. They were very popular, so I would suggest giving them a try if you didn’t have the pleasure of the free sample last week.

If you are coming by the store today, Frankie will be running a new sample between 2 and 5pm. This week he is making Nicoise Olive and Sundried Tomato Tapenade. Not being Italian, I have no idea what this means, but Frank assures me that it will be quite delicious, so come try some!

Y’all come back now, ya hear,

Tastes of Summer

Filed under: General News — Kyle at 8:33 am on Thursday, May 28, 2009

The Summer Solstice might not be until late next month, but that isn’t stopping us from rolling out some fresh tastes of Summer. When you walk through our front door you are now greeted by a beautiful display of domestic peaches, nectarines and apricots. Right behind those you’ll notice a pile of ripe watermelons. Just because Summer doesn’t officially start until June doesn’t mean that you can’t sink your teeth into some juicy Summer fruits today! Let’s be honest, we are in Vermont, we need to do all we can to usher Summer in as early as possible.

Ourwayr,
Kyle

Wines of the Month

Filed under: General News — Justin at 10:24 am on Sunday, May 24, 2009

Layer Cake Shiraz

Layer Cake Shiraz is a deep, inky wine with heavy doses of dark berries and spice.  In previous vintages, the wine has been so highly sought after that obtaining any amount of it was nearly impossible.  This year, along with the other three varieties that they currently make, we were able to get our hands on an abundance of it, knocking the price down for you.  Some who have tried Layer Cake Shiraz have come in soon after to purchase a case.  I suggest that you jump at this opportunity while it lasts.

Vernachia Terruzzi Et Puthod

Looking for a crisp, clean white for summer sipping?  This Italian white, made in the picturesque village of San Gimignano, has lovely fresh flavors of melon and almonds that persist on the long, lively finish.  Right now, we have plenty of inventory with a special price, currently saving $7 a bottle.  Act now!

Coming this June, Shelburne Supermarket is offering the Grand European Wine Sale.  We have worked long and hard with our distributor to generate bargain deals that may never be seen again.  Check out over 20 wonderful, value driven wines from Spain, Italy and France…coming soon!

Boar’s Head

Filed under: General News — Kyle at 12:39 pm on Wednesday, May 20, 2009

Recently, we have received many inquiries about and requests for Boar’s Head products. Amongst many other products, Boar’s Head makes a line of premium quality Deli meats, and it is these products that we are considering carrying. However, we would like to gauge our customers’ opinions on the matter. Please let us know what you think by either answering our online poll (located on the right) or emailing us your thoughts at info@shelburnesupermarket.com.

If you’d like to learn more about Boar’s Head, check out their website.

Barista’s Beans

Filed under: New Products — Kyle at 11:33 am on Thursday, May 14, 2009

I love coffee, I really do. Therefore, I always get excited when new coffees arrive. We have just added Barista’s Beans to our selection. They are a local operation out of Hyde Park, offering a variety of coffees ranging from expert blends to more exotic single-origin selections.

We are currently carrying five of their coffees: Barista’s Blend, Espresso Blend, Colombian Reserva, Papa New Guinea Kimel and Mexican Chiapas Decaf. I’ve personally tried both the Barista’s Blend and the Colombian Reserva, and both are excellent.

Another thing I like about this company is their extensive support of Coffee Kids, an organization that “works with local organizations in Latin America to create education, health care, micro-credit, and community-based programs for coffee farmers and their families. These efforts allow coffee farmers to reduce their dependence on the volatile coffee market and to confront the most pressing community needs.” (Coffee Kids)

You can find all these coffees in our local coffee section, and next week there will also be free sample packets of Barista’s Beans for you to take home and try. So, if your normal coffee selection is getting a little old, or you are just in the mood to try something new, give Barista’s Beans a chance. You’ll be happy you did. Also be sure to check out their website for further information on their company and coffees.

Memorial Day

Filed under: General News — Kyle at 1:41 pm on Tuesday, May 12, 2009

It’s coming early this year, so make sure you are prepared! I am relatively sure that Congress passed a law making Memorial Day cookouts required by all. Come pick up all the steaks and burgers you can fill your belly with. We, of course, also have plenty of vegetable and soy products for those who are not as strongly meat-inclined. Going to need some side dishes, aren’t you? We have delicious, freshly-prepared salads in our Deli, fresh greens in our Produce department, and if you are anything like me, more meat to go on the side of your steak. Pick up all the fixings and have a great time ushering in the Summer!

Cloud 9 on hiatus

Filed under: General News — Kyle at 2:50 pm on Thursday, May 7, 2009

Sad news to report today. Cloud 9 Caterers have unexpectedly lost their head baker. The time it will take to find a replacement and properly train him or her will cause a break in the availability of Cloud 9 products. After next week, they will be unavailable and will likely continue to be so until later this summer. This does not mean that Cloud 9 is closing shop. Far from it. There will just a slight hiccup. So be sure to stop in and grab some of their delectables before they go. I’ll be sure to let you all know when they will be returning.

Cinco de Mayo!

Filed under: General News — Kyle at 9:50 am on Tuesday, May 5, 2009

Hey! It’s the fifth of May, the day we celebrate the Mexican army’s unlikely victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla, which occurred on May 5th, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguin. Bet you didn’t know all of that, did you?

So don’t forget to pick up provisions for a nice Mexican meal tonight and remember to grab that 12-pack of Corona to wash it all down.

Doei,
Kyle
