Tell us what you think

Hey Everybody,
We always appreciate when customers tell us what they like about our store and how we conduct business. We also appreciate it when we are given advice on things that we could improve to make our customers even happier. Therefore, we have implemented a new way to send us feedback here on our blog. I’ve created a new page on our blog called “Feedback Polls.” You can reach it by clicking on the corresponding link in the right column on this page. Now, when there is a topic for which we would like some feedback, you can log onto our blog and vote for what you think is best. We hope that you will enjoy this new feature. Also, if you have any ideas about issues we should poll about, feel free to suggest them.

The first poll I have created surrounds the idea of supermarkets going “bagless,” as a number of businesses have done in California recently. The cause surrounds the idea of improving sustainability and waste management. However, there are always two sides to every issue, so we would love to hear what you think.

You can also still send us feedback through our email if your idea/concern is not covered in any of our polls. Email us at info@shelburnesupermarket.com anytime!

Adjo,
Kyle

Click to enlargeI just wanted to let everyone know that we are now (again) carrying Equal Exchange coffees. We have a number of varieties available, including Breakfast Blend, French Roast, Colombian, and Decaf. We also have a couple of their signature blends, Love Buzz and Mind, Body, & Soul.

There has been an ongoing debate between the “Buy Local” crowd and the “Fair Trade” crowd. I think it is important for everyone to realize that these issues are really just two sides of the same coin. Fair Trade means that coffee is purchased from small coffee farmers at a much more fair rate than by larger coffee conglomerates. I don’t think I need to explain what Buy Local means.

Both are important factors to take into consideration when working toward a more sustainable future. We are luckier than most in a way, since the majority of our local coffee roasters are also strong proponents of fair trade policies with coffee farmers.

I hope that you coffee lovers out there will give Equal Exchange Coffee a chance. We will be brewing some of their coffee this Sunday, so feel free to stop in and sample a cup!

If you would like to learn more about the company, check out their website.

Click to enlargeIndependence Day. The MLB All-Star game. O’Reilly’s Pinot Noir. What do these three things have in common? Each is sign of summer that has become synonymous with sitting on the back porch staring at the stars during the warm days and cool nights. This week, the third of this dynamic trio became available to you, the customer.

O’Reilly’s 2007 Pinot Noir, released Tuesday, July 22, is now on our shelves. Oregon’s most renowned Pinot is coming off of its most successful vintages in over 15 years (according to the experts). This year’s vintage offers simple flavors of berries and cola that are sure to invite any palate.

Please come in and pick up a bottle of this very limited treat. Just look for the wine with the “doggy” label. While shopping, please be sure to check our extended selection of sale wines.

Thanks,
Justin

Don’t you love how once summer gets into full swing, all of a sudden there is roughly 100 billion mosquitos everywhere? Of course not, that’s insane. If you are like me, once you get bit by that first one, you run inside and dig out all your citronella candles you have stockpiled and light so many that it looks like you are having a seance in your front yard, only to quickly remember that they don’t do a darn thing. I think that the mosquito has actually evolved to enjoy the scent. Anyway, clearly new steps need to be taken to thwart these nefarious pests.
Here’s a great tip I read about recently in Natural Solutions magazine. Apparently rosemary is a natural repellent for mosquitos and planting it in your yard can have wondrous effects on keeping them away. Planting a few rosemary plants around your yard can be much more effective than traditional sprays and also lets you avoid any potentially harmful chemicals that are contained in many.
And wouldn’t luck have it, we have rosemary plants at our store! So come grab a few and enjoy the remainder of the summer without small red bumps all over your feet!

If it weren’t for the coffee, I’d have no identifiable personality whatsoever.

Just wanted to let everyone know that we now carry Hawaiian Kona coffee again! We used to get it through Green Mountain Coffee, but they discontinued it. Luckily for the local coffee loving community, the expert roasters over at Fresh Coffee Now have filled that void! So, Kona is back on our shelves. Rejoice!

Is there anything that accents a hot summer day quite like a delicious Ice Cream treat? This shouldn’t take you that long to answer. No, there isn’t! Luckily for you, it has become even easier for you to slake this desire. Our own Marc Lewis (Yea, the guy who wears shorts all year) has started up his own business and will be driving his new Ice Cream truck around various Shelburne neighborhoods every week. He offers plenty of choices for children and adults alike, and also carries Frosty Paws for Man’s Best Friend.

Here is Marc’s schedule and territories. He operates between the hours of 6pm - 9pm.

Tuesdays - Mapleleaf Ln and Bayview area. Longmeadow and Deer Run area.

Thursdays - School St, Davis Ave, Fletcher Ln, Heritage Ln, Tracy Ln, and Stokes Ln area. Laplatte Circle. Hillside Ter, Meadow Ln, and Maplewood Dr area.

Fridays - Hullcrest, Hedgerow, Pinehurst, Birch, Brook, Woodbine, Juniper Ridge, Olde Orchard, Martindale, and Oak Hill area. Lakeview and Champlain Dr area.

Sure, there are other Ice Cream options in the world. But, who else provides it while wearing overly-eccentric Hawaiian shirts? That’s right, nobody! Keep your eyes and ears out for Marc and enjoy!

Kyle

Nothing like a good cup of joe

Apart from writing these blog posts, another one of my responsibilities here is ordering our fine coffee selections. Doing this has caused me to quickly become somewhat of a coffee junkie. If you are anything like me, you are constantly on the lookout for the next delicious brew to try.

My latest selection has been the Colombia Reserva, roasted by the coffee experts over at Fresh Coffee Now in Burlington. This company offers a variety of fine selections from Nicaraguan, Mexican, and Peruvian roasts, to more exotic Colombian, Jamaican, and Kona ones. I have tried many of the selections this company has to offer and I have never been the least bit disappointed.

We carry all of the previously mentioned roasts, except Kona, which will be here soon, as well as a Peruvian Decaf and French Roast. If you would like to learn more about Fresh Coffee Now, you can either come ask me questions, or check out the Fresh Coffee Now Blog .

Namasté,
Kyle
